Erica B. McElreath is of counsel with the firm’s Charleston, South Carolina office. Erica’s practice focuses on defending employers and insurance carriers against workers’ compensation claims brought by employees under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, the Defense Base Act, and the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act. She concentrates primarily on appellate practice under these Acts.

Erica is admitted to the South Carolina Bar, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. She was certified as a South Carolina civil court mediator in 2013 and currently serves as a Legal Research and Writing Professor at Charleston School of Law.

Erica was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from College of Charleston in 2004 and obtained her Juris Doctor from Charleston School of Law in 2009 where she received the CALI award for Legal Research and Writing and served as Articles Editor of the Charleston Law Review. After law school, Erica joined a litigation firm in Charleston where her practice included workers’ compensation, personal injury, insurance bad faith, small business defense, and other civil litigation matters. She was recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2015 and 2016.
